Linux System Engineer

Role Summary

  • Design, build, and operate mission‑critical systems across virtualized Linux and cloud environments. The role is responsible for system implementation, production support, and contributing to infrastructure architecture through feasibility studies and proofs of concept (PoCs) for new solutions.

Key Duties

  • Develop, test, install, and implement systems on virtualized Linux and major cloud platforms.
  • Administer Linux environments, including system setup, patching, backups, software installation, monitoring, and health checks.
  • Manage enterprise storage, including SAN/NAS provisioning, capacity planning and performance.
  • Lead feasibility assessments, proofs of concept (PoCs) and implementation of new IT infrastructure solutions.
  • Advise project teams on system architecture and best practices, contribute to solution design reviews.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, runbooks and operational procedures.
  • Provide 7 x 24 production on-call rotation for support on mission critical systems.
  • Act as a technical mentor and advisor to junior system administrators when required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in information technology, Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • Candidates with 5–7 years of relevant IT infrastructure experience; candidates with at least 3 years of solid Linux system administration experience will have an advantage.
  • Proficient in shell scripting and automation, with solid understanding of server security best practices.
  • Hands‑on experience with:
    -Linux (Oracle Linux, Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu)
    -Virtualization (Oracle VM, KVM)
    -Storage and backup technologies (SAN/NAS, Commvault, VTL)
    -Application platforms (Oracle/WebLogic, Apache HTTP Server, Tomcat)
    -Cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, AliCloud or equivalent)
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g. Kubernetes) will be an advantage.
  • Experience with system performance monitoring, diagnostics and tuning.
  • Good analytical and problems solving skills with strong self-motivation and ability to work under pressure.
  • Solid understanding of enterprise infrastructure and experience contributing to system architecture design.
  • Experience with IT procurement, vendor negotiation, budgeting, and financial management is a strong advantage.
  • Candidates with less experience may be considered for a Senior IT Analyst role.
